JAMMU, May 29: Pradesh Vishawkarma Sabha (PVS), J&K, has asserted for inclusion of Vishawkarma community in OBC category.
Addressing a Press Conference here at Press Club, acting president of the Sabha, Rakesh Verma, said it is unfortunate that Vishawkarma samaj, which constitutes skilled as well as unskilled workers, have been deprived of all benefits of OBC category in J&K while throughout India Vishawkarma community is considered as backward class and are provided with all benefits entitled to OBC category.
Adding further, Verma said that in another parts of the Country, Vishawkarma Day is being solemnized as a sacred day and has been announced as Gazetted holiday but in J&K Vishawkarma samaj has been dragged back having no identity when the samaj is engaged in all such works and jobs which are carried out by various tools by the skilled workers.
The acting president of the Sabha appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to declare Vishawkarma Day as Gazetted holiday and include Vishawkarma community in OBC category on the analogy of Barber, Lohar, Tarkhan, Kumhar, Bazigar, Shrighar and other categories.
Among others present in the conference were Dharam Paul Kataria (chairman), Satpal Verma (president), Darshan Singh (senior vice-president), Mohinder Paul (vice-president), Anil Kumar (general secretary) and Shashi Kumar as cashier.
