Srinagar, Jan 27: Kowsibagh village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district is without water supply since five years and in the bone-chilling winter amid snowfall the local womenfolk have to fetch water from wells.
The residents of Kowsibagh, which comprises of 70 households, said that since last five years there is no water-supply. “The water to our village was being supplied from Bulbulnag five years ago but since then we are without drinking water facility. Our women have to walk in this harsh winter to fetch water from wells and streams,” said a local elder.
The locals said that the water which they are drinking from last five years by fetching from wells is muddy and unsafe. “Our men, women and children quite often fell ill by drinking unsafe and mud-filled water,” said another local.
While lashing out at politicians, the residents added that they come to their village only at the time of elections. “First they come, seek votes in the name of providing basic civic facilities but after winning polls, they disappear till next elections. The politicians simply betray poor masses,” the locals lamented.
