PSA slapped on drug peddler

SRINAGAR, Nov 3: Police have slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) on a notorious drug peddler in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.

A police spokesman said that one “incorrigible and notorious drug peddler” namely Abdul Majeed Mir alias Majnoon, resident of Baghi Islam locality of Baramulla, has been detained under J&K Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1988 on the basis of dossier submitted by police.
“The accused is a habitual offender and had earlier also been detained under similar act but he continued to indulge in illicit activities. The general public of Baramulla has approached police asking for his re-detention in view of his unabated anti-social activities,” he said.
The spokesman said that earlier also, many drug peddlers from Baramulla and Pattan areas were detained by police and lodged in various jails of State for long durations. “Police will continue to hunt for all such elements who are in any way involved in drug trafficking,” the police spokesman added.
