JAMMU,  July 15: Highlighting the accomplishments of women in different fields of life, the Minister of State for Education and Tourism, Priya Sethi, today said that both the State and the Union Government are committed to empower women.
She was speaking at a function at Inner Wheel club, Jammu where new President was chosen for managing the affairs of the Club.
Ex president Meena Jaggi and new president Pooja Malhotra gave brief detaisl of Inner Wheel Club Secretary Naveet Kukrega and others were also present.
Priya Sethi said that from ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ to better health and education facilities, the efforts of both the Governments towards women-led development are unwavering. She said financial inclusion efforts, skill development initiatives, and MUDRA Bank programmes are empowering ‘Nari Shakti’ and enabling them to contribute to India’s growth.
She said that besides other measures, for working women maternity leave was extended to twenty-six weeks and in J&K special emphasis was laid on helping women entrepreneurs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have accorded high priority to empowering women through literacy missions enabling them to become self-reliant, the Minister added.
While calling for greater equality, the Priya Sethi thanked women achievers for their contributions over the years in the building of the nation. The present day Government is redoubling efforts to achieve gender equity and empowerment of women, she added.
Listing other welfare initiatives including PMUY, Priya said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi stands for equal opportunities and a dignified life for women folk. Asking women to come forward and avail benefits of such schemes, she said the nation has a collective responsibility to build a social system that ensures the safety, security, and dignity of women in society.
The Minister exhorted upon the members of the organization to contribute in eradicating the drug menace from the society and become agents of social change.
