Provide security to JMC, JDA for removal of encroachments: DB

JAMMU, July 4: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting illegal encroachments by the shopkeepers and other unknown persons in the JDA Shopping Complex, Mohalla Old Hospital Road, near City Chowk, Jammu and also in the adjoining areas, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today directed the Home Secretary to provide adequate security to the JMC and JDA for removal of encroachments.
After hearing Advocate Ajay Sharma appearing for the PIL, Senior AAG SS Nanda appearing for the State, Advocate Sachin Gupta for the JMC and Advocate Adarsh Sharma for the JDA, DB directed Commissioner Secretary Home Department to ensure that adequate police protection is provided to the officers of the Jammu Municipal Corporation and Jammu Development Authority for removal of encroachments.
“Needless to state that the Jammu Municipal Corporation and Jammu Development Authority shall make the requisition in this regard to the concerned Senior Superintendent of Police and on receipt of such requisition, the concerned Senior Superintendent of Police shall provide adequate police protection to the officers of the Jammu Municipal Corporation and Jammu Development Authority for removal of encroachments”, the DB said.
DB further directed Commissioner Secretary Public Works Department to extend full cooperation in ensuring the removal of encroachments and ensure that the areas from which the encroachments are removed shall not be encroached again.
Earlier, during the course of hearing Advocate Sachin Gupta appearing for the Jammu Municipal Corporation, submitted that as and when the officers of Jammu Municipal Corporation go for removal of the encroachments, the encroachers create hindrances, therefore, the police authority be directed to provide assistance to the officers of the Jammu Municipal Corporation.
