Provide adequate assistance to J&K: Vakil

SOPORE, Oct 1: A convention of Congress Party was held at Nowpora in Sopore which was presided over by former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil.
While addressing the convention Mr. Vakil hailed the recent visit of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi to express their solidarity with flood affected people and their assurance of every type of assistance to the flood victims.
Mr. Vakil stressed upon the Central to provide adequate and liberal financial assistance to Jammu and Kashmir State so that relief and rehabilitation work in respect of affected people can be taken up on war footing basis and completed in a time bound manner so that miseries of the affected families can be redressed to some extent before onset of harsh winters. He also urged the State Government to mobilize its resources for rehabilitation work in the same manner.
The resolutions which were unanimously passed in the convention included that the interim cash relief/compensation for affected families be enhanced from Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 5.0 lakh keeping in view the present prices of raw construction material and other allied things and taxes levied on construction materials be waived off for a period of two years with immediate effect and it was also that the suitable compensation/rehabilitation Package be formulated/launched for affected businessmen e.g hoteliers, Press Owners, Transporters etc and other flood affected people after proper classification/categorization of the business class they belong to and other allied parameters.
Another resolution demanding provision of free ration and electricity to affected families for a period not less than one year viz. a. viz. every type of Tax exemptions for a period of two years for bread earners of affected families.
