Protests against PDD over power failure

Srinagar, Feb 1: Residents of Srinagar areas today staged protests against Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure to supply scheduled power to the consumers.
Dozens of residents of Aali Masjid locality of Eidgah here assembled at press enclave in Lal Chowk and staged a forceful protest against the PDD. The protesters said that since last 15 days, they are without electricity and the present cold weather has increased their miseries.
The residents said that their locality’s power transformer developed snag two weeks ago and despite informing the concerned department officials they have done nothing to mitigate their sufferings. The residents demanded immediate repair or replacement of the power transformer so that the electricity to their locality is restored at the earliest.
The residents of Noorbagh locality in downtown Srinagar also staged protest against the PDD and demanded scheduled power supply to their area. They said in absence of scheduled power supply they face lots of difficulties and the local students are worst affected. “We urge PDD to ensure power supply as per schedule or face more intense protests,” they added.
