Protesting JU students gherao Negotiation Committee members

JAMMU, Apr  12: Agitated over alleged callous attitude of the University authorities towards their four-day long indefinite hunger strike as well as the `genuine’  demands, the protesting students today gheraoed  the members of Negotiation Committee.
The high voltage drama continued till late this evening as they the protesting students refused to lift the gherao despite intervention of  senior faculty members and Police also.
Five senior Professors and the Negotiating Committee members, including Prof Dipanker Sen, Prof Jasveer Singh, Prof Chahal, Prof Parmeshwari Sharma and Prof Neeru Sharma  were made hostage by the protesting students.

Even as Prof Jigar Moham-mad, head of the Negotiation Committee was also among those gheraoed, he was later allowed to go in view of his health condition.
The trouble erupted this evening when a group of protesting students, along  with Dildar Ahmad, who was observing fast unto death and had been shifted to hospital yesterday, reached the campus. They approached the JU Negotiation Committee and insisted that their demands be conceded.
When the Negotiation Committee members were engaged in talks, some students locked door of the room and laid a gherao. Later, some JUTA office bearers and senior faculty members also reached the spot for pacifying the agitating students, who refused to end the gherao.
Meanwhile,  fast unto death by the protesting students entered into fourth day. A number of students were accompanying Abhinandan Sharma and others, who are observing indefinite fast.
The protesting students were demanding immediate removal of Prof Satnam Kour as Dean Students Welfare.
