RAJOURI, July 23: The people held strong protest demonstration at Thannamandi town and blocked road for about three hours today.
Reports said that a large number of people came out on the road at main chowk in Thannamandi town and started protest demonstration at around 10 am. They blocked road for about three hours and shouted slogans against BRO/ GREF authorities for the worst condition of Rajouri-Thannamandi road. The people alleged that GREF executed black topping work on this road only from Rajouri up to Palangar while road ahead of Palangar has been abandoned due to unknown reasons.
Due to the worst condition of this road for the last nearly 10 years, the people of the area are facing lot of problems. They demanded that work on the remaining road up to Thannamandi be executed without any delay. Several political leaders and Sarpanchs attended the protest programme.
Block Congress president Shakeel Mir alleged that many people affected due to September 2014 floods in the area have not been provided relief till date. The Revenue authorities provided relief on pick and choose basis while files of about 90 families are missing in the Revenue Department at Thannamandi. He demanded inquiry into the matter. The agitating people also raised slogans against BJP led Government and alleged that it has failed to restore normalcy and peace in Kashmir.
Later, SDM, Tehsildar and SDPO Thannamandi reached the site and they talked to the agitating people. The SDM said that he will take up the matter with the BRO authorities and matter related to relief distribution would also be resolved shortly. He asked Tehsildar to trace the files and register the details with regard to relief distribution. The people then lifted dharna at round 1.15 pm. The movement of the vehicles remained disrupted for over three hours.
