Protest in Rajouri as youth dies in drug rehab centre

RAJOURI/ JAMMU, Jan 28: The relatives of one deceased and people from Rajouri town today held protest and blocked road  in Kheora area as a 24-year-old local youth died under mysterious circumstance at New Life Drug Counseling & Rehabilitation Centre Chowadi, in Jammu early today.
The deceased has been identified as Aqib Dar, son of Ashiq Dar, resident of Kkeora in Rajouri town. The police said this youth who was drug addict, had been sent by his parents from Rajouri to this Rehabilitation Centre being run by an NGO in Jammu on January 18.
His condition deteriorated during last mid night and some inmates there informed the local staff at the Centre. He was shifted to Govt Medical College Hospital, during early morning, where he was declared as brought dead. Later, his body was sent for postmortem and his parents were also informed.
The condition of another youth Shadab, hailing from Rajouri also worsened and he too, was shifted to hospital during morning. The police said that his condition was now improving.
As the dead body of  Aqib Dar reached Rajouri, his relatives and people of the locality came out on the road and started protest. They also blocked Rajouri-Thannamandi/ Darhal road at around 4.10 pm. They alleged that youth has been done to death at the Rehabilitation Centre, Chowadi and Police should register case in this connection. The movement of the vehicles remained disrupted for about 40 minutes on this road at Kheora.
Later, DySP  Headquarters Rajouri, Jaswant Singh reached the spot and he talked to the parents and relatives of the youth. He assured to hold probe into the matter by sending a special police team from Rajouri. The agitating people then lifted dharna from the road.
SHO, Channi Himmat, Sajjad Mir, however, said that this youth had been brought to the hospital during early morning by the Centre staff after his condition deteriorated. They also informed police later. He was declared dead in hospital. He said a case under section 174 CrPC has been registered. The investigation has been launched.
Mir further said that dead body after postmortem was sent to his home town Rajouri while the condition of the other youth- Shadab (22), also hailing from Rajouri,  was said to be improving. It is believed that their condition deteriorated due to over dose of drugs but the matter was under investigation.
