Protest over pregnant lady’s death, MO suspended

RAMBAN, Feb 2: The family members and relatives of a pregnant lady blocked Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and staged sit-in protest after the woman died due to absence of doctors in Critical Health Centre (CHC) at Banihal.
The family members and relatives of Zubeda Begum, wife of Mustaq Ahmed Magray of Ashar, tehsil Banihal this morning staged protest and disrupted vehicular movement by blocking Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The protesters alleged that the pregnant lady had labour pains and was rushed to the CHC Banihal this morning, but due to absence of doctors, she died.
Following her death, the relatives staged protest and raised slogans against the Government and Health Department. They were demanding stern action against absent doctors.
Due to protest, hundreds of vehicles got stranded on the partially open Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
After getting information, SDM Banihal, Tehsildar Banihal, SDPO Banihal and police team rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring them that appropriate action will be taken against the persons behind the death of the pregnant lady.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the national highway.
“As per the directions of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ramban, a Medical Officer (MO) posted at CHC Banihal, Dr Rubeena has been placed under suspension and enquiry will be conducted in the pregnant lady’s death case within five days”, said Block Medical Officer (BMO), Banihal.
