Protest against opening of liquor shop near temple

MENDHAR, Feb 15: The people from  Muslim and Hindu communities today held joint protest against the District  Administration  and Excise authorities for the operation of  a liquor shop near Hanuman temple in Mendhar town.
The people from both the communities led by Mufti Haq Nawaz, Imam of local Masjid and priest of  Hanuman Temple,  Dipankar Karan Baba assembled near SDM’s office and started protest demonstration. They were demanding closure of the liquor shop which has been opened just within 50 meters  of the temple in violation of rules.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the SDM Mendhar,  Rahul Yadav, giving two days’  ultimatum to close this shop or face public wrath.  DC Poonch had already issued order to close down liquor shop/ bar in town but it was still operating with the connivance of local police.
