Protest at Chowki Chora after girl’s body found from nallah

AKHNOOR, Apr 13: Mystery shrouds the death of a young girl whose dead body was recovered from a nallah near her house in Chowki Chora area of Akhnoor Sub Division of district Jammu today.
The deceased has been identified 18-year-old Rajni Devi, daughter of Madan Lal, resident of Chowki village. She went missing in the afternoon on April 9 and the family members and neighbours started search for the girl till late in the evening but could not traced her.
Then next day, they reported the matter at Police Post, Chowki Chora, under Akhnoor `Police Thana’ jurisdiction. The police also started search operation along with some locals and family members but no breakthrough could be achieved in three days.
At around 7.30 am today, a villager noticed the naked body of the girl floating in deep pool (Dabbar) of water in the Nallah, hardly 100 meters away from her residence. He immediately informed the family. The shocked members rushed to the site and also informed police. The Police party rushed to the spot. The family members had covered the body by then. Her clothes were also lying nearby at the bank of the pool. SHO Akhnoor, Shivdev Singh along with some force and police vehicle reached there.
After some time SSP Jammu, Vivek Gupta along with some officers and FSL team also reached the spot. After examining spot thoroughly and collecting circumstantial evidence, the police team shifted the body to Sub District Hospital, Akhnoor where a Medical Board led by BMO Akhnoor, in presence of Magistrate conducted postmortem on the body, taking all precautions, in view of proper investigations.
SSP, Jammu Vivek Gupta when contacted said that he personally visited the spot and examined the case from all the angles for his personal satisfaction. The FSL team also did its work properly. He said as per family members, the girl was insane and they also showed her medical record. He said inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC have been launched. Medical Board has conducted postmortem and things will be clear after the report is received by police. Gupta said there were no injury or violence marks on the body. It had little swollen and death appears to be due to drowning. However, police team under his direct supervision was investigating in to the matter.
Meanwhile, the people held protest at Chowki Chora and also closed shops in protest against the alleged murder of the girl. The people alleged that it was murder and the accused be arrested. SHO Akhnoor has however, ruled out the possibility of murder. He said after receiving postmortem report, the things will be more clear.
