The people raised barricades on busy highway at around 10.30 am today and sat on dharna. A large number of women and youth of the area also joined the protest with family members/ relatives of the deceased boy and the villagers. They were carrying big photograph of the deceased and protesting against the Police authorities. They alleged that Police was not taking this case seriously and was dragging its feet. Even no suspects could be detained for questioning till date. They raised slogans against ASP, SDPO and SHO Nowshera besides State Government.
The protesting people were demanding that case be handed over to CBI or a Special Investigation Team be constituted by IGP Jammu for solving this blind murder. The villagers alleged that they had no faith on the local police, because on earlier occasion also during protest about two weeks back, police had assured to solve this case shortly but the result was still `big zero’. They also burnt tyres on the road and disrupted movement of vehicles up to 2.30 pm.
Addl SP Nowshera Atul Sharma, SDM- Abdul Sattar and  SDPO-Khaliq Hussain arrived there and started dialogue with the agitating people but they refused to lift dharna. The people demanded that they will suspend agitation only when DC intervenes into the matter. Then with the intervention SDM the locals talked with DC on phone and he assured to visit their village on Thursday and discuss issue with them in detail. On the  assurance of DC, then they lifted dharna and allowed movement of vehicles on this busy highway. A large number vehicles and hundreds of commuters remained stranded for about five long hours on the highway due to inaction on the part of police.
