DODA, May 24: An 18-year-old youth, who was injured in an accident yesterday, succumbed to his injuries today at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), triggering protest from family members, relatives and people at Kahara here.
The victim identified as Arshad Ahmed Harga (18), son of Mohammad Hanief Harga, a resident of village Goila, tehsil Kahara received serious injuries, when he fell down from the roof-top of a Tata Sumo yesterday near Kahie village on Kahara-Tanta road.
The profusely bleeding victim was rushed to District Hospital from where he was later airlifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu, where he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased teenager was pursuing Maulana Course at Dara-ul-Aloom Deoband in Uttar Pradesh and had recently come home for annual vacations.
As the news of the death of the teenager spread, large number of people including family members held protest against Civil Administration and Police at Kahara.
The protesters were demanding immediate arrest of the erring driver and stern action against traffic violators, who put the lives of the passengers on stake by not checking the overloading in the vehicles.
“Police have given free hand to the drivers, who act like goons and they not only charge exorbitant rates from poor villagers but also put their lives at risk by overloading on these dangerous roads”, alleged Chairman Panchayat Goila Safdar Hussain Hashmi. To neutralize the monopoly of private transporters, SRTC bus service should be immediately allotted for this area, he added.
Civil administration is equally responsible for the mishaps as this accident happened only due to the pathetic condition of the road, said protesting Naib Sarpanch Goila Manzoor Ahmed Shan.
He added that substandard work done by the PMGSY on Kahara-Tanta road is putting dozens of lives of poor villagers on risk daily and surprisingly the Civil Administration and Police is doing nothing but acting like a mute spectator.
“We have lodged a case under FIR Number 50/16 under Section 279, 336, 337 and 304 RPC at Police Station Gandoh. The vehicle bearing registration number JK06-5956 has been seized”, said SDPO Gandoh Bhushan Kumar Ganjoo.
He added that the absconding driver of the Tata Sumo identified as Mohammad Sai, son of Mohammad Mussa Gujjar of Barnu, tehsil Kahara has been arrested from village Jawalapur.
