AKHNOOR, Aug 22: The villagers from Sunel Panchayat, just about 3 kms from the town held strong protest demonstration against local Revenue authorities for the alleged grabbing of nearly 206 kanal of village common land by some land mafia men in connivance with the field Revenue staff of the area.
About 200 villagers led by Sarpanch Surinder Singh reached Tehsil office complex at Akhnoor and started protest. They raised slogans against Revenue Minister, SDM and Tehsildar Akhnoor and alleged that local land mafia men were active in the area with some political patronage and they have grabbed hundreds of kanals of land in and around Akhnoor. They alleged that in yet another fresh attempt they have managed to grab 206 kanal of village common land at Sunel, near new bridge and it has been entered into the name of a single man under `Inteqal’ No 449 recently.
They alleged that with the full political patronage, this has happened while higher officials in the Revenue Department are mute spectators. They submitted a memorandum for Chief Minister to the Tehsildar Vijay Kumar Sharma giving eight days’ ultimatum to Akhnoor administration, failing which they would come out on the roads.
