Proposal for enhancing income ceiling of parents for scholarship to OBC students under consideration

NEW DELHI: Government said today that a proposal was under consideration for enhancement of income ceiling for parents from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh under the centrally-sponsored scheme of the post-matric scholarship for OBC students in the country.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla said welfare schemes for OBCs, EBCs, DNTs are “funds limited”.

“There is a proposal under examination for enhancement of income ceiling for parents under the Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC students in India from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh,” he told the Rajya Sabha.

“To award scholarship to the most needy students, the income ceiling have been fixed accordingly,” he said.

The income ceiling under pre-matric scholarship for SCs and OBCs has been fixed at Rs 2.50 lakh, while post-matric scholarship for SCs has been fixed at Rs 2.50 lakh, for OBCs and Economically Backward Classes at Rs 1 lakh. (AGENCIES)
