Prominent food centres served improvement notices

JAMMU, May 21: A team of Drugs and Food Control Organization today conducted surprise inspection of prominent food centres in Jammu and served improvement notices to these establishments.
The inspection was conducted by Sanjeev Kumar, Asstt Controller Food, Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith a team of Food Safety Officers namely Rakesh Gupta and Ajay Khajuria. They conducted inspections in the city areas with an objective to lay emphasis on the mandate of new food regulations which revolve around self regulation.
During the drive establishments running restaurants/fast food centers in the name and style of Jhelum Resorts Pvt Ltd, Pizza Hut and Aroma Enterprises were subjected to thorough inspection. It was observed that the said establishments were carrying out their operation without valid authority. The overall condition of kitchens was far from satisfactory. The team served improvement notices to all establishments and accorded reasonable time to the authorized person to comply with provisions laid down under the Food Safety Act and rules.
The team also inspected road side food business operators and educated them about the importance of maintaining cleanliness as also preventing direct exposure of commodities to environment. They were impressed not to sell or offer such food articles which are contaminated or perished to gullible consumers.
The Deputy Commissioner, Food Safety, Lotika Khajuria has impressed upon all stake-holders to respect the mandate of law and secure due diligence to ensure that safe & wholesome food is provided to end users.
