Progress in spiritualism and materialism

Swami Ramswarup

In the absence of the knowledge of creation that how God creates the universe, nobody can be a learned. From the creation, we come to know about each non-alive matter of universe, by utilization of which we make our lives comfortable, long and happy. This is called materialism i.e., knowledge of worldly matters-science.
Second part of creation which is required to be known is spiritualism which destroys illusion, enables us to control our senses and thus prevents us from doing any kind kind of sin. So, when human-beings get progress in both the matters simultaneously, then only peace is maintained on the earth, otherwise ravages of hatred, tradition of blind faith, violence and what to talk that several types of sins are committed in the society.
Therefore the learned of Vedas in Atharvaved ask the human-beings, “Whether you only try to attain the spiritual knowledge about god or oversighting spiritualism, you are only after the materialistic articles of the world to live i.e., “drink, dine and be merry”. Again they ask whether you only try to know and obtain all the materialistic articles of the world to get merriment?  i.e., A person tries hard and gets all kinds of  wealth/materialistic  articles for his own use as well as for the use of his family to get pleasure/merriment. In this regard,  thelearned asks the people whether the said wealth/articles serve  you to fulfil your entire wishes and make you happy or all the gathered materialistic articles are as usual left behind and you have to ultimately meet with death?
Similarly, in the matter of food, they ask whether you  have eaten food or the food has eaten you. Vedas emphasis that only one sided knowledge/progress either in materialism or spiritualism is always harmful as in the absence of materialistic articles nobody can survive whereas in  the absence of knowledge of Brahma (spiritualism) human- beings will be indulged in illusion and their lives will always be  sinful. (Atharvaved mantra 11/3(1)/26 refers)
When the question to get both the above said knowledge  simultaneously arises then Yajurved mantra 32/14 preaches  to follow the eternal, vedic knowledge traditionally which emanates directly from God in the beginning of non-sexual  creation. We will have to follow the said Vedic preach because Vedas contain the eternal and everlasting spiritual as well as knowledge of unlimited worldly matters like vegetation, water, air, earth, sun, moon etc., created by God for the well-being of all living-beings, in the absence of which no-one can survive. Secondly, study of vedas and holy books written by  ancient Rishi-Munis like Mahabharat epic, Valmiki Ramayan  etc., reveals that God creates and nurses the universe and He  preaches in vedas that every human-being must also worship Him, in the light of Vedas keeping in view the three subjects i.e., one should pray to God (Prarthna), should listen and chant ved mantras which describe His divine qualities (Stuti) and must worship Him (Upasana). Vedic Upasana is eternal and  everlasting because it is preached by Almighty God Himself in  Vedas and not by any mortal human-being. In this connection,  Rigveda mantra 1/24/13 throws the light, (Shunaha shepaha)
The aspirant (Ahvat) calls i.e., worships (Aadityam) immortal  God by doing (Trishu) vedic- (i.) Pious deed- karma, (ii.) Upasana i.e., worship that one  should listen to Vedas,  daily Yajyen/agnihotra with  ved mantras, do name jaap of God and must practise  Ashtang Yog philosophy under guidance of learned acharya  of Vedas and Ashtang Yog philosophy and (iii.) Gyan i.e. to get knowledge of all materialistic articles of the world and  knowledge of God from Vedas.
The idea of the mantra is that Almighty God has created all unlimited worldly matters like vegetation, iron, gold etc., and as quoted above for the benefit of all living-beings and we must know that each matter contains its own individual quality.
So, the aspirant by studying the Vedas should know  about the quality of each matter to make its best use in daily life and worship.
Mantra 12 adds that learned of Vedas and Almighty God, both preach us through vedas which we must learn and hold in our daily life, to be away from doing sins  and immoral deeds. It concludes that only in the absence of Vedic knowledge, most of the public of the world is now indulged in several sins, immoral activities, violence, blind faith etc.
Spiritualism enables a person to make his character good by controlling all his senses and organs keeping himself away from sins. God in Vedas tells us to know all the moral duties from vedas, viz. towards family, society, nation, services towards parents, elders selflessly, duties of  politicians, mother, father, son, daughter, army, police, businessmen, agriculturists, spiritual masters and several others.
The above system when remains in vogue surely makes a  nation strong, as was in practice in the previous yugas. It  restricts everybody from doing any kind of sin, which is  necessary to make a nation strong and maintain peace all over the world.
Actually, the unlimited knowledge of Vedas can’t be  mentioned here due to the limited time and space. So, we  must all try to know the secrets of Vedas to form the good  character of inhabitants to enable them to discharge their  moral duties faithfully to further unite the nation and make the  nation strong. So, it concludes that by all means every citizen  must try his level best to make contact with a learned acharya  of Vedas and Yog Philosophy to listen and follow eternal vedic  knowledge which emanates directly from God, for the welfare  of nation and all human-beings by promoting International  brotherhood.
