Prof Gupta for review of J&K’s educational policy

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 23: Former Union Minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta today expressed the need for a review of the educational policy of the State, especially at the basic level.
Prof Gupta said that unfortunately the Dogri became the victim of communal and regional bias of the State politicians. When the Indian Constitution was being framed, the representation of Jammu in the Constituent Assembly was insignificant and in the draft, the State was just named as Kashmir and Kashmiri was inducted as regional language.
But at the instance of some visionary members, the name of the State was amended as J&K but Kashmiri remained as sole regional language, he added and pointed out that Dogri had to wait for fifty years to get its due share, as it could find place in 9th schedule in 2003 when there was Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee led NDA rule at the Centre.
Prof Gupta described the educational policy framed by Congress-NC rulers of the State as lop sided and ill conceived as in the Valley and some parts of Jammu region the Urdu was  being taught but in Hindu dominated areas Urdu was taught but in Devnagri script. And thus, a communal divide was being perpetrated from the very beginning. This was also created problems for Jammuites in Government services and other spheres of life as Urdu in Persian script is the State language for official and other purposes he pointed out.
Prof Gupta recalled that visionary Pt Prem Nath Dogra was opposed to this “humpback” and had been stressing for adoption of both Urdu and Hindi in all parts of the State as Urdu being the State language and Hindi being the National one.
He said that though Pandit ji succeeded in getting the NCERT syllabus in the State but the humpback still continues to play with the future of the youth as also the common man. All this needed a review, Prof Gupta asserted.
