JAMMU, Dec 10: Rudra Awards – the awards of excellence in various disciplines, were today conferred by Prof Chaman Lal Gupta Foundation in association with Greater Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha and Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha, here today.
The Foundation was established by prominent social workers in the year 2002 in honour of veteran BJP stalwart and former Union Minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta. This Foundation has introduced Rudra Awards to encourage and bring forward the talent of deserving candidates of the Jammu province.
The Rudra Awards were presented by chief guest Avinash Rai Khanna, BJP national vice-president and guest of honour, Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister.
The Rudra Award of Excellence in the field of Education, was presented to Dr Rakesh Panjaliya (Asst Professor, Department of Zoology, University of Jammu) for his research work in Human Genetics and allied field.
The Rudra Award for Excellence in Journalism was presented to Pardeep Dutta (Bureau Chief Times Now Channel) for his professionalism and contribution to society as impartial journalist.
Rudra Award of Excellence in Social Service was presented to V.K Bhagotra for his untiring services to Home for Aged & Infirm. Rudra Award for Excellence in Sports was presented to Rajinder Singh for his outstanding achievements in Sports.
Rudra Award for Excellence in Art and Culture was presented to Janak Khajuria, a famous Radio and Theater artist.
Life Time Achievement Award was presented to Brig Suchet Singh (eminent RSS leader), Raj Bharti (social activist) and Bhagwat Swaroop (RSS leader) . Besides, trophies to 35 students were presented for their outstanding achievement in the fields of Academics and Sports.
Satpal Grover, a former politician and social worker , was conferred with Life Time Achievement Award Posthumously.
Earlier, the function started with the lighting of lamp by Avinash Rai Khanna, in presence of Dr Nirmal Singh, Kavinder Gupta (Speaker Legislative Assembly), Chander Prakash Ganga (Minister of Industries & Commerce), Sat Sharma (State president BJP & MLA), Shamsher Singh Manhas (MP), Jugal Kishore (MP), Pawan Gupta (MLA), Rajesh Gupta (MLA), Vivod Gupta (MLC), Kuldeep Gupta (Vice Chairman, Pahari Advisory Board, J&K), Naresh Gupta (MLC) and various other dignitaries and nominees of awards. The veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta was also present on the occasion.
S P Langer, president GJCMS, along with Romesh Gupta, president Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha, welcomed the guests. Anil Gupta (Chief Coordinator GJCMS), said that the objective of Rudra Awards is to acknowledge the achievements and recognize the extra ordinary services rendered to society by the youth of the State.

Other prominent persons, who were present on the occasion, included Arun Gupta (former secretary general, CCI), Rajinder Motial (former secretary general , CCI) Rattan Lal Gupta, Dr Mohan Lal, Amar Chand Gupta, Bal Krishan Gupta, Dr J G Langer, Engr V K Gupta, Sunil Mahajan, Omprakash Kaku, Morari Lal and Omprakash Gupta.
