UDHAMPUR, Oct 6: Lauding the Modi Government and the Union Home Ministry for living up to its commitment to deport back Rohingyas, Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Udhampur-Kathua-Doda, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today, now that the process of deportation has started, BJP will demand a thorough probe into the alleged role of political parties like Congress and National Conference (NC) in facilitating the settlement of Rohingyas in Jammu and its suburbs, in a bid to alter the demography and change the vote composition.
Speaking to media persons during the local body election campaign today and later addressing a BJP public meeting here, Dr Jitendra Singh said, on every issue, the Congress and its allies, particularly National Conference, turn “holier than thou” and start questioning the BJP rule of last four years, but we will not let the people forget the sins committed by Congress and its allies over the last 65 years. It is the Congress and its allies, he alleged, who had over the last 15 years, tactically facilitated the settlement of Rohingyas in and around Jammu.

Dr Jitendra Singh called upon the BJP’s contesting candidates to go door-to-door to the people of Udhampur and raise the question as to why none of the MPs, MLAs or Councilors in the last six decades had taken up the issue of river Devika cleaning. After all, it was the same Devika, same Udhampur and the same faith of people in the holy River, he quipped and said, now that a mega national project has been cleared, the opposition parties are trying to distract the issue. Similarly, he asked, “why none of the earlier representatives took up the cause of Radio Station at Udhampur even though the demand had persisted since 1965 war, and now when we are getting the Radio Station completed by this year end, the opposition parties say that nothing had happened.”?
Congress and its allies talk of discrimination with Jammu region in the last four years of the BJP rule, said Dr Jitendra Singh, but the fact is that, to cite only a few examples of the Centrally funded works in just a brief span of four years, Udhampur-Kathua-Doda got two Medical Colleges (at Doda and Kathua), one Engineering College at Kathua under Central RUSA scheme, one Radio Station at Udhampur, one Radio Relay Station at Patnitop, upgradation of Bhaderwah Radio transmitter, Shapur Kandi Dam which had been shelved for forty years, National Institute of High Altitude Medicinal Plants at Bhaderwah, historic Chhattergala tunnel, Degree College at Paddar under Central RUSA Scheme, Centrally funded Sports Stadium at Ram Nagar , Bio-Tech Park at Kathua from Union Ministry of S&T, Seed Processing Plant at Kathua from Union Agriculture Ministry, Highway Village at Kathua from NHAI, Keediyan Gadyal bridge at Lakhanpur from central MORTH, Daya Krishen Kotwal Community Centre at Bhaderwah from MP fund, Dreamland Park at Kathua partly funded from MPLAD, clearance for upgrading Kishtwar Airstrip under UDAN scheme, highest ever share of Centrally funded,PMGSY,BRO roads and bridges, etc.
All this Congress and its allied governments could not give in as many as 60 years, he said.
It is during the Governor’s rule that the empowering provisions of 73rd and 74th amendments of Constitution are being introduced for the local bodies, whereas the Congress avoided this although it was Rajiv Gandhi’s concept, said Dr Jitendra Singh. It is the BJP Government, he added, which has ensured local body and Panchayat elections in the State after over one decade, while National Conference talks of autonomy for father and son but no autonomy for duly elected Panches and Sarpanches.
On the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh interacted with BJP candidates contesting the Udhampur Municipal Council election from each of the 21 Wards.
BJP State Vice President Pawan Khajuria spoke in detail about the various historic projects initiated in Udhampur with the support of the Central Government during the last four years. He said, the BJP is confident of winning the majority in the Council election, on the basis of its commitment to address the local issues which have remained unaddressed due to the absence of a duly elected Municipal Council.
Somraj Khajuria, Rakesh Gupta, Advocate Amit Sharma and others were among the prominent BJP leaders who attended the public meeting.
