Prince William, Kate likely to visit Taj

AGRA : UK royals Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton are expected to visit Taj Mahal in April this year. This would be the first visit to the monument by a member of the British royal family after 24 years. Princess Diana, mother of Prince William, visited the monument in 1992.
An advance team from the British high commission held a meeting with Agra officials here on Thursday to review the security system and other arrangements for the couple. Though, district officials confirmed the meeting with the British team about the visit of the Royal couple here today, they did not share the date of their visit.
William, second in line to the throne, and Kate’s India visit had been announced on November 13, the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Queen Elizabeth II over tea at Buckingham Palace.
According to reports, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be in India between April 10 and 17.
The royal couple, both aged 33, are likely to travel without their children prince George and princess Charlotte. The visit is set to be their first official overseas tour together since their three-day tour of New York in December 2014, reports said.
On February 11, 1992, Diana was photographed sitting alone on the white marble bench with the Taj Mahal in the background. The photograph made the bench so iconic that it has since been dubbed the Diana bench.
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, duke of Edinburgh, had visited the 17th mausoleum during their six week royal visit to India in 1961. (AGENCIES)
