JAMMU, Jan 18: Alertness of a civilian followed by swift action taken by Doda police today foiled what could have been a major tragedy in Doda as cops detected and defused powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted by the militants on roadside in Bharat area of the district.
Sources said police received information from a civilian that the IED had been planted at village Pounda on the main Bharat Road, about 12 kilometers from district headquarters.
On receiving the information, police team comprising SP Operations Doda Ravinderpal Singh, Additional SP Vinay Kumar Khullar, DySP Doda Headquarters Iftkhar Ahmad and SHO Manjeet Singh rushed to the spot along with Bomb Disposal Squad.
A team of 10 Rashtriya Rifles also reached the spot and a joint operation was launched by Army and police to defuse the IED. Traffic on the road was stopped and entire area was cordoned off.
The IED, weighing 10 kilograms, was successfully defused.
The operation was supervised by SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir.
