JAMMU, Sept 24: Power employees including engineers today held protest demonstration and dharna in the office of Chief Engineer, EM&RE, Canal Road here today.
They were protesting against the decision of the Government for the privatization of the Power sector and implement assured career progression for the power engineers besides enhancement of their field travel allowance.
A large number of employees from the Power Development Department (PDD) under the banner of All J&K Power Employees & Engineers Coordination Committee, led by heads of various Unions and Associations of the Power employees assembled in the office complex of Chief Engineer, EM&RE Jammu at Bhagwati Nagar ( Canal Road) here in the morning and started protest demonstration.

They were shouting slogans against the State Administration for its decision of unbundling of the PDD and creation of Power Corporation. After holding protest for some time, they started day long dharna at the site. The speakers including president Graduate Engineers Association Harvinder Singh, convenor Sachin Tickoo, P C Sharma from PEEU, Sanjeev Bali from PPEU, Parshotam Sharma, Aijaz Kazmi, Balbir Singh (DA), Gurmeet Singh-CNGU, Jaipal Sharma-DEA and others strongly opposed the privatization move of the Govt and said that there is no transparency about the plan of the Government and moreover, the stake holders have not been taken into confidence.
They said that Govt must come out with a blue print and maintain transparency about its move as it would impact a large number of power employees who are working for the last more than 15 to 20 years and even more in the department. They warned to intensify their agitation in near future. They also demanded to implement career progression mode for engineers, enhancement of their field travel allowance and fill up vacant posts, besides holding of DPC in time.
