Power crisis worst in Kashmir valley: Tanvir

Excelsior Correspondent

SRINAGAR,  Jan 25: National Conference today  lashed at the PDP-BJP Government over the unprecedented power and ration crisis in the State, especially Kashmir valley and said that a few inches of snow has buried the whole Government.
“A few inches of snow has paralyzed the whole Government, and there is no doubt about its intentions, priorities and inability to address people’s problems” Political secretary to Omar Abdullah, Tanvir Sadiq  said after touring many areas of downtown Srinagar.
“Internal roads have not been cleared of snow, there is no electricity, kerosene or fire wood available. The Government is only visible on the TV channels to take note of the misery and suffering that people are reeling under,”  Tanvir said adding  that  not even one minister of the BJP- PDP Government is in Kashmir.
Stating that Kashmir Valley is facing a major power crisis worst in the past two decades   Sadiq said  the  power crisis in the Valley is unimaginable. Srinagar is the worst hit, unscheduled power cuts have grown severe.  The thumb rule has been that the power distribution has been 55:45 for Kashmir (including Ladakh) & Jammu respectively because Kashmiri consumers have been comparatively paying more. But for now major part of energy is given to Jammu, he added.
Taking a dig at the PDP and its ministers the NC leader said the ministers are not   concerned about the crisis. The Government  should purchase  power from northern grid. They have no moral authority to govern if they cannot provide relief and comfort to the people, he added.
Tanvir said that the power sector had shown great improvement up to 2014 and as soon as this Government took charge the miseries of people started increasing. The Government is not adhering to its own power schedule. People only see power for a few hours.  The  water supply is also out of gear.  The snowfall had exposed the tall claims of the government, which had failed to minimize the miseries of the common masses at the time of crisis, he alleged.
He was accompanied by Block president Zadibal Mushtaq Beigh, youth leaders & prominent citizens of the locality.
