GVK Rattle is the developer and L&T is the EPC Contractor of 850 MW hydroelectric power generating project at Drabshalla. Both have stopped work on the project owing to insecure conditions they are facing. People of surrounding areas have been interfering in their work and thus causing disruption in smooth functioning of the project. Two days ago a large number of people barged into the office of the company demanding employment for the local youth, something which the companies are not in a position to do. Despite requests made to district authorities to ensure security and safety at the site, nothing has been done. Things have come to a pass where the managers had to shut down the project. It is a reflection on the District Administration that they have not been able to provide protection to the companies engaged in crucial task of building the hydroelectric power generating unit. If this condition continues, it can have adverse impact on other companies that are engaged in developmental work in the State. The administration especially the Home Department should take very serious notice of this situation and ensure that no such situation is allowed to unfold in future.
