Police tightens noose on absconding ex-serviceman

KATHUA, Feb 15: To pressurize the family to intimate whereabouts of absconding ex-serviceman Som Raj, Kathua police today     arrested two accused persons and relatives of prime accused.
They included Hans Raj S/o Dhani Ram R/o Ramkot district Kathua (brother in law of prime accused) and his son Ashok Kumar. The duo is being subjected to interrogation. A handout issued by SSP Kathua Pawan Parihar here said.
It said in order to ensure the presence of prime accused namely Som Raj before investigation agency, a process has been initiated to identify his property for attachment.
In addition to this, matter has been taken up with Deputy Commissioner Kathua for cancellation of gun license of absconder who fired on a team of revenue officials and police on January 31 at his native village who had gone there to restore the Government land encroached by him.
Police said hectic efforts are being made to trace out remaining accused persons and the case will be concluded on merits.
It may be recalled that on January 31 this year one Som Raj S/o Jalal R/o Chack Bhaga tehsil & district Kathua and others fired upon Police party and Revenue staff through licensed weapon (12 Bore Gun) when they vacated State land occupied by Som Raj at Rakh Lachhipur tehsil & district Kathua. A case FIR No. 30/2017 u/s 307, 353 RPC 3/25 Arms Act was registered in this connection at PS Kathua. After the commission of the offence, the culprits fled to evade the arrest.
During the course of investigation, series of raids were conducted at various places and one accused namely Samitri Devi W/o Som Raj R/o Chack Bhaga was arrested and later bailed out by the Court of Law after six days.
Keeping in view the sensitivity of the issue, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Addl. SP Kathua has been constituted for taking concrete steps to arrest absconding accused persons.
