Police seizes 13 tons of polythene

KATHUA, May 29: Kathua Police has foiled a major smuggling attempt of banned polythene into State and seized nearly 13 tons of polythene carry bags in the town today.
Senior Superintendent of police Suleman Choudhary informed that acting swiftly on the receipt of information that  a truck bearing registration number JK08D-8781 loaded with polythene carry bags entered the State via Raavi river. Police party  laid a naka and intercepted the said truck at National Highway near Kalibari.
The police has arrested two accused, including driver of the vehicle and one is still absconding in this case, he further added
It is pertinent  to mention that  import of Polythene bags in any form is banned in the State under Section 6 of the J&K Non Bio-degradable material (Management, Handling & Disposable) Act , 2007 .
A case under FIR Number 166 of 2017 of under Section 188, 120 B, 420 of RPC and Sec 6 of JK Non Biodegradable Material Management Handling and Disposal Act has been registered at police station Kathua.
The whole operation was conducted by a team headed by Inspector Anil Kumar Sharma, SHO P/S Kathua, Sub-Inspector Varinder Singh Incharge P/P Hatli, under the supervision of Dy Sp Hqr. S S Sambyal.
