JAMMU, Oct 26: Police today rescued a physically challenged person from his house in forward village of shelling hit Abdullian in RS Pura sector, where he was putting up with his wife alone while other members of the family had shifted to safer locations.
Excelsior photographer, Rakesh Bakshi while covering Abdullian sector found Darshan Lal, a former casual worker of the Power Development Department (PDD) in his house along with wife while majority of population from Abdullian had migrated to safer areas.
On being informed by Rakesh Bakshi, the Excelsior Team immediately took up the matter with SP Headquarters Romesh Kotwal, who sounded SHO RS Pura Inspector Bushan Manhas.
Manhas along with police personnel rushed to Abdullian despite continued shelling and firing and rescued Darshan Lal and his wife in a bullet-proof vehicle.
Reports said that Darshan Lal couldn’t stand or walk as his legs had been incapacitated in a mishap when he was working as casual labourer with the PDD. He was confined to the bed.
Romesh Kotwal told the Excelsior that police have kept bullet-proof vehicles ready for evacuations from border villages. He said announcements have been made in the border villages that pregnant women and other ailing people should immediately shift to lodgment centres or ask for vehicles from police for transportation.
