Police raids HM comdr’s hideout, hunt for owner launched

Srinagar, Dec 2: A Fisheries department employee was killed in an operation in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district this evening after militants fled from the cordon.
Sources said that one Asadullah Kumar resident of Mundhol Qazigund was posted at Chansar as Fisheries guard where he was killed this evening firing.
Army on a tip off cordoned of Chansar village in Kulgam district this evening. Sources said that the militants fled from the cordon and Kumar was killed in the firing.
Police said that Kumar was killed in cross firing between militants and security forces.
In the meantime, security forces today raided the house where Hizbul Mujahideen commander Zakir Rashid used to record videos to issue threats to policemen and mainstream politicians and launched massive manhunt against the owner of the house.
A police spokesman said that the Police and Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) conducted an operation in Batipora village of Dadsara in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“During the operation, house belonging to Mudasir Ahmed Gunoo, son-in-law of late Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir was searched where forces found material and articles used by militants,” the spokesman said.
During preliminary investigation, said the police, it was also established that Zakir alias Mosa used to record videos in one of the rooms of the house raided by security forces.
“Some clothes and other material used by Zakir in different videos and photographs were also recovered. A manhunt has been launched for the absconding owner. A case under FIR number 190 under different Sections of RPC stands registered. Further Investigation is going on,” the police added.
The security forces’ raided the house hours after Zakir released a video in which he issued death threat to families of policemen “if cops harass militant families”.
Zakir, an engineer-turned-militant, has taken over commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in South Kashmir after killing of Burhan Wani in July this year.
In the meantime, Police today issued a statement regarding the killing of an arrested Congress worker, Sajjad Ahmad Malik in Dooru area of Anantnag district.
“On 1.12.2016 at about 1720 hrs an accused person namely Sajad Malik alias Bita Malik decamped with an AK rifle along with one magazine from Police Station Dooru”, said Police.
“After firing some shots near the market, and taking advantage of the darkness he managed to escape towards Zamalgam.  On way near Cherikari he fired towards an Army patrol. The fire was retaliated. In the exchange of fire Shabir Malik got killed. The deceased was a released militant and a history sheeter, who was already arrested in militancy cases in various Police Stations”, Police said.
However, reports said that the man was a former Sarpanch of Congress. Calling the encounter as fake, JKPCC president, GA Mir, demanded an enquiry into the incident.
