Police officer thrashed, looted by miscreants; one arrested

JAMMU, Aug 10: In a surprising incident, a police officer was allegedly thrashed and looted by a group of miscreants in the Gujjar Nagar area located in the heart of the city here. However, a person has been taken into custody in this regard.
“A police officer namely SI Noor Ahmed of Gujjar Nagar, presently posted in the security wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) was stopped by a group of goons in Gujjar Nagar area”, police sources said.
They said that the miscreants first thrashed the cop and also attacked him with sharp edged weapons as he was in civils and was riding a two-wheeler, adding, they looted cash worth thousands from him and gold ornaments.
The cop also received injuries in the clash.
An eyewitness said that the victim tried to chase the attackers as being a policeman he identified them as he himself had served as Station House Officer at many police stations in the city.
An incident took place just few metres away from the Police Post Gujjar Nagar.
“All the accused are identified and on a complaint lodged by the cop, raids were conducted in different parts of the town and one accused identified as Riyaz Choudhary of Gujjar Nagar has been arrested”, police said.
A case under relevant Sections stands registered at Peer Mitha police station and hunt is going on to nab the other accused persons.
