Srinagar Jan 1: Jammu and Kashmir Police today nabbed a woman drug peddler and recovered around 700 grams of Charas from her in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara, Shamher Hussian, said that following an input, the accused was held during checking of vehicles in Drugmulla, near Kupwara town, around 4 PM today.
He said that she is the first woman arrested in the district during past many years, in connection with illicit trade of drugs.
Police has registered a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and started investigations.
“Apparently her arrest has brought to the fore role of women in the illicit trade of drugs. Her arrest is expected to lead to more arrests and recoveries of banned drugs in coming days, “he said.
In a major crackdown against drug abuse, a special team of police in Kupwara has arrested 54 ‘notorious’ drug peddlers and recovered banned drugs and psychotropic substances valued at millions of rupees in international market, during the last year.
