Police launches manhunt to arrest absconding ex-serviceman

JAMMU, Feb 14: Kathua Police has launched a man hunt to arrest Som Raj an ex serviceman who fired on a party of revenue officials and police team on January 31 when they had gone to village to dismantle the encroachment made by him on the State land and later fled from the spot.
The ex-servicemen is absconding since then and the Pathwaris who protested against him and demanded his immediate arrest have now threatened to go on indefinite strike. They have also made a representation to Divisional Commissioner Jammu demanding immediate arrest of culprit and slapping of PSA on him besides cancelling his gun license failing which they will go for indefinite strike.
The Divisional Commissi-oner talked to both DC and SSP Kathua who informed him that the Police is on the job and the culprit will be arrested within one or two days.
When contacted SSP Kathua, Pawan Parihar told Excelsior that two teams of police have been sent to Samba and Jammu respectively to arrest him. He said the police has not taken any lenient view of the matter as the ex-serviceman had fired in air when revenue officials as well as police party had gone to the village to dismantle the structure constructed by him on government land.
He said police has registered a case under Section 307 and Arms Act against him and his wife was also arrested and only released on bail after eight days.
Parihar said Police is on the job and within one or two days he will be arrested as his family members and relatives are fully cooperating with police.
