JAMMU, Dec 26: Police today foiled attempt of Saakshar Bharat Mission (SBM) employees to take out a protest rally towards Civil Secretariat.
Hundreds of contractual employees of SBM (an adult skilled development programme launched in 2009 by Prime Minister of India across the country including J&K) under the banner of All J&K SBM Employees’ Forum assembled this morning here at Exhibition Ground and staged a protest seeking a clear cut job policy for them.
While speaking on the occasion, State president of the Forum, Ishfaq Ahmed Shah, the State Literacy Mission (SLMA) was constituted in 2010 in J&K under this SBM and under the scheme, recruitment of Preraks, Block Coordinators and District Coordinators were recruited purely on merit basis through proper procedure.
He said that for last six to seven years they are performing their duties with dedication in respective schools/AECs under the supervision of concerned DIET principals/ZEOs.
“The scheme has been extended by Government of India upto December 31, 2017 but till then the contractual employees may have crossed the maximum age limit under service rules and they will get expired in terms of engagement in other departments”, he added.
The Forum leader said recently the Government framed road map for regularization of nine categories of workers engaged in different departments from time to time. He said that their case may be consider by the Government on the same pattern, as they are highly qualified and well experienced, and have good skills.
Later, in the form a rally, the protesting workers moved towards Civil Secretariat but were stopped by the police at Dogra Chowk. The workers also restrained use of force by the police for some time but later dispersed, raising slogans against the police and the Government.
