Srinagar, Mar 18: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was today detained by police ahead of Parliamentary by-polls in Valley and sent to 12-day judicial remand.
A JKLF spokesman said that Malik was detained from its Abi Guzar office and sent to central jail Srinagar on 12-day judicial remand. Malik, along with other top separatists, has called for boycott of Parliamentary by-elections scheduled next month in Srinagar and Anantnag constituencies.
Meanwhile, police today raided office of hardline Hurriyat at Hyderpora and foiled the proposed meeting of its leaders. “Police laid a siege near Tehreek-e Hurriyat office in Hyderpora and office bearers including visitors were not allowed to enter the office premises,” said a Hurriyat spokesman.
He said the Hurriyat Conference had organised a programme to discuss future strategy about upcoming elections and participants were expected to present their view point on the issue.
