Police busts gang of thieves, kingpin among two arrested

POONCH, Jan 6:  With the arrest of two persons including a kingpin, the police claimed to have achieved a major success by unearthing a gang of  burglars. Stolen goods  worth lakhs were also recovered from their possession.
Talking to media-persons here today, SSP Poonch JS Johar said that with the arrest of kingpin and recovery of valuables including gold and silver worth lakhs, the Poonch police has busted a gang of inter-district burglars active for the last two years in the area.
Giving more details,  SSP said that over the last two years, a large number of burglaries were reported from across the district. Subsequently, a Special Inves-tigation Tem (SIT) headed by DySP headquarters, Poonch Mohan Lal Sharma  including SHO Poonch Jatinder Raina under the supervision of ASP Poonch, Masroor Mir was constituted to crack the theft cases.
He disclosed that SIT worked hard and zeroed in on a suspect. On arrest, he was put under  sustained questioning. Then he confessed resorting to burglaries and also lead to the arrest of other members of his gang,” SSP said.
Johar informed that the  gang was active in several other districts for the past few months. From commercial establishments to residences, the gang had committed burglaries at various places including the thefts in District Court complex Poonch. After stealing the items, the gang used to sell these at cheaper rates. Upon their disclosure,  the  property worth  lakhs in the form of gold and silver ornaments ,  Rs 50,000  cash and  Rs 1, 87,000  fake Indian currency notes were recovered. Further investigation into the matter was going on.
He said  further recoveries and arrests of accomplices, abettors and receivers of stolen property are expected in coming days. With these arrests and recoveries, at least five cases of burglary in Poonch district have been solved, the SSP said.
