Police action on rally unjustified: Kalsotra

JAMMU,  Jan 29: The All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations (J&K) has alleged that police action on pro-reservation rally was not justified.
In a meeting of the Confederation held here today under the chairmanship of R K Kalsotra said that members from SC/ST/OBC categories were protesting peacefully and the police action was not justified. While criticizing the modus of the JAC alleging to be pursuing the cause of open merit categories, he said that reservation is a constitutional right and after the High Court quashed the reservation in promotions,  the then Chief Minister  Mufti Mohammad Sayeed  had assured restoration of reservation in promotions.
Kalsotra said that current system of  reservation was provided for upliftment of those classes who have been decimated against for centuries. He further said that now  the effect of reservation has started showing results,  and upliftment of these categories to some extent, some sections apprehend losing their hold over these deprived classes.
He said the Government, having been brought into power, is presumed to know the real plight of the masses as the public representatives are better equipped to address the ground realities. He said that reservation is not an economic program and given the background of deprivation and segregation being perpetuated since ages and that continues to this day, reservation is essential in its present form.
Ch Mohd Shafi, AN Bhagat, Dina Nath,  Ramesh Kaith, Roshan Choudhry, Mushaq Kohli and  Susheel Kumar were also present.
