JAMMU, Apr 13: The PoJK Refugee Front, led by Rachhpal Singh Chib, organized a protest rally against the State Government’s alleged arrogant attitude towards the displaced people, who were uprooted due to Indo-Pak wars of 1947, 1965 and 1971.
The protesting refugees raised slogans against the NC-Congress coalition Government and said that only ray of light for them was Narendra Modi, the Prime Ministerial candidate of BJP.
Addressing the rally, Rachhpal Singh said that the State Government move of sending the draft package on final settlement for refugees to the State Cabinet Sub-Committee, instead of Central Government, smacks of ill intentions of dumping the same.
“This move of the State Government also shows its arrogance and scant regard of Indian Parliament and Delhi Government because of the powers vested in the State Assembly and State Government through Article 370 of the Indian Constitution,” he alleged.
The draft package for settlement of the uprooted families from Chhamb, Deva Watala, Bhimber, Nah, Manwar, Mirpur, Kotli, Palandri, Poonch and Muzafarabad was submitted by the State Government to the Department Related Standing Committee of Parliament on November 7, 2013. After making necessary amendments on recommendations of the refugee organizations, the draft package was to be sent to Central Government but the same was put before a sub-committee headed by State Finance Minister A R Rather for the reasons best known to the Government.
Maintaining that Narinder Modi was only ray of hope for justice to the refugees, Rachhpal Singh appealed the community members to vote and support the BJP candidate in Kathua-Udhampur-Doda constituency. He said that boycotting the elections would indirectly help the parties in power, which need to be punished for doing injustice to refugees, he explained.
