PNBMT opposes charging of fee from devotees

JAMMU, June 10: Pt Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust (PNBMT) has expressed concern over the charging of money from the devotees by the Verrinag Development Authority (VDA) intending to perform obeisance at the holy Shiv temple in the holy spring of Verinag.
In a statement issued here today, spokesperson of the Trust, Dr R L Bhat said that holy spring of Verinag is a pilgrimage centre for the community where a holy temple of Lord Shiva exists on the bank of spring also and as a past practice the devotees used to go there to offer prayers and worship.
There is a full chapter devoted in Nelmat Puran an ancient book on Kashmir to the spring and its religious significance, he said, adding it is a cause of concern that the devotees intending to pay their obeisance at the holy temple are being charged fee by the Development Authority Verinag and the same is not acceptable to the community. He urged the Government to look into the matter and not to rake up another controversy over the issue.
