PNB celebrates its 123rd Foundation Day

JAMMU, Apr 12: Punjab National Bank celebrated its 123rd foundation day across the country with great enthusiasm and fervor.
The day was also celebrated in 105 branches of the bank in J&K State by organizing various functions at the branches and also in the vicinity of the branches.  The celebration of the day in J&K was spearheaded by Bikram Singh Raina, Circle Head for J&K State. On this day, rich tributes were paid to late Lala Lajpat Rai, one of the founder members of PNB.
Under its Corporate social responsibility, the solar street lights installed at village Sukhdev Pura, Chak Nathal and village Chorli (Bishnah) were handed over to the respective Panchayts in presence of Tehsildar of Marheen Tehsil/BDO Bishnah.
Bank also distributed solar lanterns, sport kits, books and stationery items to girl students under PNB Laadli scheme at villages Sukhdev Pura, Chak Nathal, Harsha Dabber and also at villages Ratti and Sial Jattan in Udhampur District. Libraries for benefit of local students were also inaugurated at these places.
From bank’s side, these functions were attended among others by Pawan Kohli, Deputy Circle Head,   Sanjay Dhar, Chief Manager and   Subhash Chander, Chief Manager at Circle Office.
PNB had commenced its business operations on April, 12, 1895 and had opened its first branch at Anarkali Bazar, Lahore (now in Pakistan).
Inspired by the spirit of nationalism and the idea that Indians should have a national bank of their own, PNB was founded as first Swadeshi Bank by far-sighted visionaries and patriots, who included Lala Lajpat Rai, E C Jessawala, Babu Kali Prasono Roy, Lala Harkishan Lal and S  Dayal Singh Majithia. The bank is now 122 years young with wonderful blend of experienced and energized staff both meeting the expectations of customers and other stakeholders.
Starting with a meager authorized Capital of Rs 2.00 lakh and  working capital of Rs 20,000, the bank has crossed the total global business of Rs 10,00,00,000 lakh crores and  the record of breaking records continues on day to day basis. The bank has a network of about 7000 branches, the largest number amongst the nationalized banks after SBI. The Bank is offering extended services to the public through its network of about 11000 ATMs. Seven banks have been merged with PNB before & after nationalization giving further strength to the bank.
