JAMMU, Dec 12: Former R&B Minister, Abdul Majid Wani today called the PM’s special package in R&B sector as a farce claim.
Wani said that the so called PM’s special package of Rs 42, 600 crores in R&B sector, was nothing but routine assistance of Government of India for projects, which were either launched during UPA Government or were recommended by the last NC-Congress Government in the State.
The former Minister recalled that as claimed by the PDP-BJP coalition, the special grant of Rs 42,611 crores is to be spent on highway projects, which included construction of Zozila Tunnel, semi-ring roads in Jammu and Srinagar, projects for better connectivity and upgradation of important highways and other projects in the State.
Wani said that it was only during the last NC-Congress coalition Government in the year 2013, when the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, Government of India was approached for launching of various projects, which required Central assistance for up-gradation of roads and connectivity networks viz declaration of 6 roads as National Highways in J&K, 102 DPRs to be sanctioned under militancy hit areas, sanctioning of tunnel on Mughal Road, sanctioning of new projects under inter-state connectivity, ring roads in Jammu and Srinagar cities for regulation of traffic, etc.
The former Minister said that on persistent demand of the then NC-Congress coalition Government in the State, the Union Government had approved revision of its core network to include as many as 1100 left out unconnected habitations. He said that even the Centre had already hinted at providing adequate funds for widening and up-gradation of Manali-Leh and Jammu-Poonch Roads, which were declared as National Highways.
“All this could be possible only with the intervention and persuasions made by Ghulam Nabi Azad and Oscar Fernadis, the then union Ministers in the UPA Government”, Wani claimed.
