JAMMU, Jan 30: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh would hold a high level review of security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in one-to-one separate meetings with Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at the Raj Bhawan here in the afternoon of February 2, when he would fly here from Kolkata on a two days visit of Jammu.
Dr Singh would be inaugurating five days long Indian Science Congress at Jammu University at 10 am on January 3 and deliver the inaugural address before flying back to New Delhi.
Official sources told the Excelsior that even though the inauguration of 25 kilometers long Udhampur-Katra rail line by Dr Singh, which was earlier part of his tour itinerary, has been deferred due to some technical problems on the track, the Prime Minister would keep his schedule of two days visit to Jammu and not confine it to single day.
The Prime Minister would reach here around 3 pm from Kolkata after a long flight after attending a function in the capital city of West Bengal. After ceremonial welcome, he would proceed to the Raj Bhawan.
Sources said Dr Singh would have one-to-one separate meetings with the Governor and the Chief Minister for half an hour each during which he would discuss prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Pakistan’s activities along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), militancy related scenario on the borders and the hinterland and preparations of the Government for 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
“Various external factors could also figure during the talks,” sources said, adding that different aspects of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir would come up for discussion during the meetings.
Dr Singh was likely to host At Home dinner for Ministers, Legislators and other selected gathering at Raj Bhawan.
This was likely to be the last visit of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh as head of UPA-II to Jammu and Kashmir unless he undertakes campaign for Lok Sabha elections in the State. The Election Commission of India was likely to impose Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha polls either in the last week of February or first week of March.
Sources said Dr Singh would have night stay at the Raj Bhawan. He would proceed to Jammu University on February 3 morning and inaugurate the Indian Science Congress at 10 am in the presence of a number of Union Ministers including Dr Farooq Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad, M Pallam Raju, Governor NN Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and experts of national and international repute.
The Prime Minister would return to New Delhi at about 11.30 am on February 3 after inaugurating the Indian Science Congress and delivering the inaugural address.
