PM speaks on Kashmir

The latest 35 minute Mann Ki Baat programme of the Prime Minister was mainly devoted to the situation in Kashmir. For quite some time, the PM did not say anything on the eruption of unrest with the liquidation of a terrorist in South Kashmir on July 8 last. The opposition in the Parliament, particularly the Congress, made it a point to charge that the PM was non-serious while young people were getting killed in Kashmir. In the Valley also, the opposition and their henchmen orchestrated same tantrum. For the Prime Minister, it was a serious issue when he was conveyed the nitty-gritty of the conspiracy planned in advance to find a pretext of whipping up passions among the masses as an instrument of derailing the Coalition Government. There is no doubt in the assumption that many elements contributed overtly and covertly to the spread of unrest in the length and breadth of the Valley. At the same time, it also came to the knowledge of Kashmir watchers that ISI had worked out the ins and outs of the agitation and mass mobilization by deepening anti-India propaganda. The fact of the matter is that so much material was brought to the knowledge of the Prime Minister in regard to the elements fomenting trouble in Kashmir, that he had to stay back and analyze the situation before the hidden facts of this perfidy were disclosed.
The question is that the people involved in the disruption have freely encouraged teen agers to come out in large numbers and swoop on police stations and CRPF camps assuming threatening postures and attempting to snatch their arms. Those older people who brought the groups of boys to move on used them as shields till they came close to the police posts. Thereafter the handlers gave a slip and let the boys be hit by the teargas shells or the splinters from pallet guns. The security forces would not allow the mobs to disarm them and make them sitting ducks. The might of the State was challenged. The Prime Minister is right in saying that the handlers will have to answer the questions of these children why they were misled and what for were they exposed to the retaliation of the security forces.
The slogan of ‘Azaadi’ was exposed and belied while the unrest continued. It became known to one and all who were the handlers and what was the meaning of ‘Azaadi’. This is very clear that ‘Azaadi’ for those who are raising the slogan or who are giving calls of strike are asking only cessation from India and accession to Pakistan. ‘Azaadi’ is a hoax and camouflage.
Prime Minister did not say all this though he is fully aware of it. Yet like a great statesman, a true nationalist and humanist, he made a fervent appeal to the people of Kashmir to adopt “Ekta” meaning unity and ‘Mamta’ meaning love as the philosophy of life. This is a great lesson of how a country has to be governed. Unity and love make a nation strong and nothing can derail it if these two principles are strictly adhered to. Prime Minister is sad that those who have been killed whether from among the civilians or the security forces are the sons and daughters of the land. Their death is a national loss. How can anyone feel comfortable when the loss of life happens? What the PM exactly means to say is that the Government feels disappointed on boys of teenage  being indoctrinated and used as shield against the security forces who are to perform their rightful duty of protecting millions of civilians who are all peace loving and do not want turmoil and disruption of law and order.
Speaking in the context of ongoing unrest in Kashmir, the MoS in PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh made a cogent point which all sensible and Kashmir loving people should ponder over. The handlers of stone throwing boys had sent their own wards to safe havens or top educational institutions in or outside the country, and those whom they were instigating were the sons of poor and toiling people. If jihad is so sacred, they should have recalled their wards from schools and colleges and prompted them to join the jihad. He was very clear that there was completely good rapport between the Centre and the State Government and both were in constant consultation while considering day to day situation in Kashmir. He also appealed to the parents and elders to do some introspection on how their children are being misled for a wrong action and those who do so do not owe any responsibility of bringing disaster to Kashmir.
