PM addresses 2015 batch IAS officers, underlines Govt’s priorities

NEW DELHI, Sept 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the valedictory function of 2015 batch IAS officers on the completion of their 3 months’ “mentorship” as Assistant Secretaries, as per a unique new practice introduced by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), three years ago.
Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for DoPT with Independent Charge of Northeast  was  present on the occasion. Additional Principal Secretary to Prime Minister P K Mishra, Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, senior Secretaries and officers also attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the period by the young IAS officers in Central Ministries and Department, at the very beginning of their career, will be of advantage to them and called upon them to carry forward to every nook and corner of India some of the priority programmes of the present Government like GST, Saubhagya Rural electrification plan and the GeM mission.
Modi said that it was indeed significant that the junior-most and senior-most officers are spending such a lot of time communicating with each other. The Prime Minister said that the young officers must imbibe all the positives from these interactions. He asked young officers to focus on subjects such as GST implementation and boosting digital transactions, especially via the BHIM App.
Prime Minister urged all officers to speed up the adoption of Government e-Marketplace (GeM) in their respective departments. He said this would eliminate middlemen and result in savings for the Government.
Giving examples of ODF targets and rural electrification, the Prime Minister urged the officers to work towards 100 per cent achievement of targets.  He urged the officers to work towards creating the India of the dreams of freedom fighters, by 2022.
Talking to media later, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the unique experiment of “mentorship” introduced three years ago under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has proved highly successful. Not only the young IAS officers have been proving presentations which are taken into cognizance by the various Central Ministry and department, he said, the young officers themselves are feeling extremely enthusiastic and motivated by this new practice.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, during the three months, the young IAS officers not only participated in different activities of respective ministries but also discovered their hidden talents and organized certain activities on their own. In this regard, he cited the example of the first of its kind two day “Northeast calling” at India Gate New Delhi early this month which was primarily handled by the young officers led by 2015 topper Ira Singhal.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that the three months of mentorship will serve as launching pad for the young IAS officers to shoulder their respective responsibilities over thenext three decades.
