Plane makes emergency landing on highway in Sweden

LONDON, Aug 30:  The pilot of a light aircraft has made an emergency landing on a highway in Sweden, “shocking” passersby.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene after the plane came down on Highway 27 in Boras municipality.
Why the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing is not clear.
“I do not know if there is a breakdown or so, but everything is fine now,” said Bjorn Christoffersson, spokesman for the emergency services of Sodra Alvsborg.
A witness was on his way to the amusement park High Chaparral in Smaland with some friends when they suddenly saw the aircraft, ‘The Local’ reported.
“We were shocked, it’s not everyday you see a plane at the side of the road,” he was quoted as saying.
No one was hurt in the incident and the aircraft was driven into a parking area at the side of the road.
Christoffersson said there was no damage to either the road or the plane.
“They had moved the plane off the road when we arrived so we have not had to do anything,” he said.
The pilot told Radio P4 that he planned to make an emergency landing in the fields near the road, but he chose to come down on the road because there are a lot of trees in the fields.
“It felt like we ran out of gas. But I checked the gasoline before the start and we had a reserve so right at this moment I can not say what caused it,” the pilot said. (PTI)
