RAJOURI, Dec 15: With a view to install confidence and team building traits among the youth and inculcate the habit of healthy life style, Kalal Rashtriya Rifles under the aegis of Rashtriya Rifles Sector Headquarter at Tain organized ‘Pir Panjal Cross Country League’.
Total six events for different age groups in various segments were organized. 12 kilometer cross country run was organized in which teams of total six districts-Doda, Poonch, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri and Reasi participated. 3 km and 5 km ‘Run for Fun’ was organized for children in the age groups of 11-14 years and 15-18 years respectively. A 3 km ‘Run for Unity’ was also organized for Ex-Servicemen.
The event was flagged off by Major General Dhiraj Seth, GOC CIF (Uniform) and was witnessed by host of dignitaries from both army as well as district administration apart from general populace of the region.
12 km cross country event was won by Reasi district. In a keenly contested finish, Gold medal in the event was won by Sanjeev Salaria from Rajouri District, while silver and bronze medals were nagged by Narinder Singh and Manir from Reasi district.
In 3 km ‘Run for Fun’ wvent for girls, Lalita Devi won the Gold medal, while in boys category, Zaheer Hussain emerged winner.
In 3 km ‘Run for Unity’ event, former soldiers displayed unmatched enthusiasm and sportsmen spirit. The Gold medal in this event was won by NK Ashwini Kumar.
More than 200 runners participated in these events and enthusiasm of the participants was evidently seen at the ‘Selfie Corner’, where the runners thronged to click selfie after the event.
The event culminated with distribution of prizes and certificated to the winners in various categories.
While speaking, Major General Dhiraj Seth said that sports is an integral part of personality development and constructive involvement of the youth in such activities will help nurture brighter future of the nation. He also called upon everyone to inculcate habit of healthy life style.
