JAMMU, Oct 13: In at least 5 countries and 50 cities, more than 5,000 women will participate in a 5 kms Run at 6.30 am on October 21, 2018 to showcase solidarity with the cause, while 30 runners participated in the Promo Run of the event today.
The idea of having Pinkathon Day is the brainchild of super model and founder of Pinkathon, Milind Soman who said, “The message of Pinkathon is clear. Women, we need you. Your families need you, and not just your children, but your society, your country needs you. In the words of Bishop Tutu and countless wise men before and since, “If we are going to see real development in the world then our best investment is women!”
She further said that, “Pinkathon, India’s biggest Run for only women was conceptualized on October 21, 2012 and hence the date is significant, adding that they have been receiving requests to organise Pinkathon from towns and cities across the country and even abroad.
“The need of the hour is for women to come together as a community to drive positivity in progress and good health for all, starting with themselves! In a country like ours, with a culture that has no tradition of sports for all, or exercise or of healthy lifestyle practises, change is needed and women are the key to that change.”
Meanwhile, about 30 participants from different walks of life ran 5 kms as a Promo Run of Pinkathon today.
The event started from Rotary Park Gandhi Nagar and the participants ran towards Green Belt Park Road and through Panama Chowk went towards the main road and concluded in the Rotary Park.
The event was organised by Mukta Sharma, Helicopter Engineer in association with Jammu Runners Group.
The JRG was headed by Kanu Priya Garg, ace Marathon Runner, while her other colleagues included Shivangi Gupta, AEE, Zoya Shipra Agarwal, Gurpreet Handa, Sona Mehta, Tanvi Gupta, Meenakshi, Ritu Sharma, Rajesh Padha, Rajeshwer, Lucky Manhas, Neeraj Manhas, Rakesh Sharma, Sajjan Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Vikram Agarwal, Vikram Handa, Dr Sunita Puri, Bindhya and Meenu Gupta.
