POONCH, Feb 16: Press Information Bureau (PIB), Government of India Jammu in collaboration with Information Department organised a media workshop titled “Vartalap” which was aimed to act as a direct interface between PIB’s Regional/Branch offices and the journalists working at district and sub-district levels. The workshop is part of PIB’s media outreach strategy with the aim of establishing direct contact with working journalists.
The proceedings of the workshop were conducted by Sunil Koul, Media and Communication Officer PIB Jammu who stressed upon the need to give preference to proactive development journalism in the region so that people at grassroots can be made aware about the schemes being run by Central and State Governments for the welfare of the people. He urged the participating journalists to play a positive role in highlighting development issues and be a mirror to the Government in the implementation of the welfare schemes.
The main objective of the workshop was to ensure effective communication and dissemination of information regarding government policies, programmes and schemes to the masses.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Poonch Mohammad Harun who was chief guest on the occasion had long interactive session with journalist fraternity of Poonch and sought valuable feedback from journalists on various matters.
While speaking, DC said journalists serve as a vital link in the chain of information, and play a significant role in the process of establishing a direct two-way communication process between the administration and the citizens. He urged upon media persons to work with utmost sincerity and dedication without any biased approach as you are shouldered with enormous responsibilities of bringing justice and to setup a healthy society.
Large number of working journalists from the district participated in the one day event. The journalists were sensitized about their role in highlighting local issues and making people aware in rural areas about benefits of centrally sponsored welfare schemes. Special sessions about various nuances of development journalism and role of a local journalist viz-a-viz development in rural areas were also held in the workshop, which was addressed by a number of senior and experienced working journalists besides other trainers.
Sunil Koul, Media and Communication Officer PIB Jammu, Vijay Kumar Mangotra, Retd Media Officer and Abid Shah, DIO Poonch were among the experts who spoke on the occasion.
