JAMMU, May 15: The Departments of Physical Education and School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) scripted emphatic victories over their rivals in the Inter-Departmental Cricket Tournament, being organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, under the supervision of its Director, Daud Iqbal Baba at the Varsity grounds, here.
In the first match played today, Department of Physical Education defeated Department of Buddhist Studies in an easy contest by 7 wickets.
Batting first, Department of Buddhist Studies scored 76 runs in 12 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Tahir and Akash scored 18 and 17 runs respectively. For Physical Education Department, Manjeet took 2 wickets, while Anuj Singh, Akram and Tarvinder Pal claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, Department of Physical Education chased the target in `0.3 overs by losing 3 wickets to win the match by 7 wickets. Anuj Singh top scored with 23 runs, while Akram Ali contributed 16 runs to the total. Waseem, Nadeem and Rishikesh shared one wicket each for Department of Buddhist Studies.
In another match, SHTM defeated Commerce Department by a narrow margin of 11 runs.
Batting first, SHTM scored 109 runs in 12 overs, with Rakesh and Mayank contributing 35 and 32 runs to the total. Jasdeep and Rajan claimed one wicket for Commerce Department.
In reply, Commerce Department scored 98 runs in 12 overs to lose the match by 11 runs. Sanket and Jasvinder contributed 21 and 19 runs to the total. Rakesh bagged 3 wickets from SHTM Department, while Varinder, Anirudh and Saajan shared one wicket each.
The match was officiated by Vijay Kumar, Aman Singh, Raj Kumar Bakshi and Satpal.
